Abstract 【Abstract】Knee hyperextension is a common gait abnormality in patients with cerebral palsy, which
is mainly caused by various factors, including decreased muscle or ligament stability, muscle spasm or
contracture, proprioceptive dysfunction, and bone and joint deformities. With the continuous development
of medical technology, the assessment of knee hyperextension in cerebral palsy has become increasingly
precise and comprehensive, not only limited to the assessment of knee angle, but also comprehensively
evaluating its causes and related dysfunction, and many advanced instruments have been introduced into theassessment work. In terms of rehabilitation treatment, exercise therapy, orthopedic braces, physiotherapy, and other methods have been widely used and have achieved certain results. However, there is still a lack ofsufficient evidence to support the effectiveness of intramuscular tape, botulinum toxin injection, and surgery. The article primarily provides a comprehensive review of the etiology, assessment techniques, and research advancements in treatment of knee hyperextension in patients with cerebral palsy.
