Bibliometric and visual analysis of childhood sleep disorders based on Web of Science

Abstract: 【Abstract】 Objective To analyze and track the hotspots and frontiers of research in the field of childhood sleep disorders from 2014 to 2024, and provide guidance for future research. Method A systematic search of the Web of Science (WoS) core collection database was conducted to retrieve publications related to childhood sleep disorders, covering publications from January 1, 2014 to July 12, 2024. Bibliometric and visual analysis of international collaborations, co-citation, keyword co-occurrence, and keyword bursts were performed using CiteSpace6.3.1 and VOSviewer1.6.20 software. Result A total of 4 176 publications were finally included. The number of annual published articles in the field of childhood sleep disorders exhibited a sustained upward trajectory between January 1, 2014 and July 12, 2024, reaching its peak in 2022. he top three countries with the largest number of publications were the United States (1 544 publications), China (610 publications), and Australia (384 publications). The top three institutions were Harvard University(188 publications), the University of California (162 publications), and the Pennsylvania Commonwealth System of Higher Education (130 publications). The top three authors were Bruni Oliviero (57 publications), Ferri Raffaele(43 publications), and Xianchen Liu (41 publications). Robust collaborative networks were observed among countries, institutions, and authors. Sleep Medicine ranked as the most active journal in terms of published articles and citation impact. The keyword "sleep disorders" demonstrated the highest frequency. The most cited study received 112 citations. The major research themes encompassed insomnia, child behavior, and sleep health. Conclusion The field of childhood sleep disorders has developed a global core group of authors and leading journals, with the United States, China, and Australia are at the forefront of research on childhood sleep disorders. Future research can further explore the influencing factors, intervention measures and cross-cultural studies of childhood sleep disorders, to promote childhood sleep health globally.
