Investigation and analysis of birth defects status in perinatal infants in Guilin, GuangxiProvince

【Abstract】 Objective To analyze the information of perinatal infants with birth defects in Guilin,Guangxi Province from January 2018 to December 2020, and understand the occurrence of birth defects.Method From January 2018 to December 2020, the information of Birth Defects Registration Card of allmonitoring hospitals in Guilin, Guangxi Province and medical records of perinatal infants were compiled.
Descriptive statistical analysis was performed on the monitoring data and occurrence of birth defects.
The number of cases, percentage and constituent ratio were used for statistical analysis. Result From
January 2018 to December 2020, a total of 147 817 perinatal infants were enrolled in Guilin, including 2 003
perinatal birth defects. The incidence of birth defects was 135.51/10 000, which was increasing every year.
The top three common birth defects were congenital heart disease (CHD), polydactyly and synpolydactyly.
Of which CHD was the fifirst, with an incidence of 34.30/10 000, accounting for 25.31% of the total birth defects.
Furthermore, the prevalence of birth defects of pregnant women aged 30-34 years was the highest (34.55%,
692/2 003), and the prevalence of CHD increased with the increase of maternal age. The constituent ratio of birth
defects in rural areas was higher than that in urban areas [(63.70%, 1 276/2 003) vs (36.30%, 727/2 003)]. And theprevalence of birth defects in male perinatal infant was higher than that in female [(59.06%, 1 183/2 003) vs
(40.79%, 817/2 003)]. As for diagnosis time, most live birth defects were diagnosed in the time periodof "postpartum diagnosis within 7 days" (93.58%, 1 720/1 838), which was mainly diagnosed by clinical
methods (68.93%, 1 267/1 838). While most birth defects of non-live births were diagnosed in the period
of "prenatal diagnosis" (87.88%, 145/165), which was mainly diagnosed by ultrasound diagnosis methods
(60.61%, 100/165). Conclusion From January 2018 to December 2020, the incidence of perinatal birth
defects in Guilin, Guangxi Province is generally low, but has a rising trend. CHD is the leading birth defect.
