A study of vaginal microflora detection during pregnancy based on Open Array technology

Abstract: 【Abstract】 Objective To investigate the clinical efficiency of Open Array platform technology in the analysis of vaginal flora during pregnancy and the detection rate of pathogens screening. Methods From November 2017 to May 2018, 200 pregnant women in Peking Union Medical College Hospital were enrolled, whose swab specimens were tested by traditional culture and Open Array platform technology. Results For the detection of vaginal candidiasis and bacteria infection, the positive rates of traditional culture method and Open Array platform technology were 19.0% (38/200) and 20.0% (40/200), respectively, with no statistical difference (P=0.800). The accordance rate between traditional culture and Open Array platform technology for candida and bacteria was 94.5%, and 97.1% for candidasis. In addition, 34 cases (17.0%) of bacterial vaginosis (BV)were detected by Open Array platform. In this study, the proportion of premature rupture of membranes in BV positive cases (26.1%) was higher than that in BV negative or any other infection cases (17.6%), but there was no significant difference (P=0.053), and further study with a large sample size was needed.Conclusions Open Array platform technology can be used as a rapid detection technology for screening vaginal flora and pathogens during pregnancy. The detection rate of Open Array platform technology is similar to that of traditional culture with a high degree of conformity. It has credibility when there are clinical needs for rapid detection for targeted treatment and medication guidance.
