Abstract: 【Abstract】 Objective To investigate the effect of white noise on relieving operational pain by fundus screening in premature infants. Methods From March to September 2018, 296 premature infants (gestational age 28-34 weeks, birth weight 1 160-2 000 g) were admitted to NICU, Bayi Children's Hospital, The Seventh Medical Center, General Hospital of PLA, who were performed fundus screening at the age of 4-6 weeks. The infants were given normal position and smoothing method and randomly divided as white noise intervention group (146 cases) and control group (150 cases). The white noise was played in a loop with player while the 146 cases were screening. Premature pain scale (PIPP), heart rate and oxygen saturation were compared between two groups in pre-screening at 5 minute, screening and post-screening at 5 minute. The statistical analysis was carried out by t-test and χ2 test. Results There were no statistical significance in PIPP, heart rate and oxygen saturation between two groups at 5 minutes before screening(P>0.05). The white noise intervention group was lower than control group in PIPP [(8.23±0.67)vs(14.72±1.12)points ] [(6.12±0.78) vs (10.87±0.93) points, P<0.05] at 1-5 minutes afterscreening. The heart rate in white noise intervention group [(152.32±3.28) vs (159.72±1.58) times/min] was lower than that in control group [(149.98±4.76) vs (155.87±1.97) times/min, P<0.05]significantly. The oxygen saturation in white noise intervention group [(87.73±1.57) % vs (83.92±1.32)%] was higher than that in control group[(88.32±2.28) % vs (86.17±1.83) %, P<0.05]. Conclusions White noise is simple, cheap and non-invasive. It can effectively alleviate the operational pain by the fundus screening for premature infants and can be widely used in clinic.
