Abstract: 【Abstract】Objective To investigate the association between the plasma level of cystatin C and insulin resistance in patients with gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM). Method According to the result of OGTT, the patients in second trimester who selected at the General Hospital of Beijing Military Command from June 2013 to June 2014 were divided to two groups, GDM group (85 patients) and control group (171 healthy pregnant women). The plasma levels of cystatin C were detected by ELISA. Meanwhile FPG, 1hPG, 2hPG, FINS and HOMA-IR were measured, the difference of two groups were compared. The relationship between cystatin C and insulin resistance was analyzed. Results The plasma levels of cystatin C (1.12±0.17) mg/L, FPG (5.79±0.64) mmol/L, 2hPG (8.44±1.24) mmol/L, FINS (17.78±1.06) mU/L and HOMA-IR 4.63±0.71 in the group of GDM were higher than those in control group cystatin C [(0.83±0.27)mg/L, P<0.01], FPG [(4.32±0.42)mmol/L, P<0.01], 2hPG [(6.15±0.58)mmol/L, P<0.01], FINS [(12.28±0.76)mU/L, P<0.01]and HOMA-IR 2.37±0.33, P<0.01 . The difference in 1hPG and HbAlc % between the group ofGDM group (9.03±0.38, 5.03±0.38) and control group (8.89±0.86, 4.97±0.54) was not statistically significant(P>0.05 ). There was a positive correlation between the serum level of cystatin C and HOMA-IR (r=0.423,P<0.05 )in the group of GDM. Conclusions The plasma levels of cystatin C are higher in GDM group than in control group. Plasma cystatin C level is related to GDM and the increases of the plasma level of cystatin C might play a key role in regulating insulin sensitivity of GDM.
