The role of exhaled nitric oxide in the diagnosis andtreatment of chronic cough in children with 3 to 5 years old

Abstract: Objective To explore the clinical value of the diagnosis and treatment of chronic cough in children by detecting exhaled exhaled nitric oxide (eNO) and peripheral blood eosinophil content(EOS) in Children 3 to 5 years old with chronic cough. Method eNO and peripheral blood eosinophil assay in 120 cases of children with chronic cough were detected,then 80 cases whose level of eNO was were randomly divided into two groups as the test group(n=40) and the control group(n=40), each group inclouding 40 cases,the test group were treated with glucocorticoid inhalation for four weeks,the control group were only given symptomatic treatment,at the same time,the levels of eNO and peripheral blood eosinophil cells were detected simultaneously before and after the administration. Results Of 120 cases of chronic cough in children, the level of eNO and the percent of eosinophil cells in peripheral blood in 80 cases were both increased. When compared to the control group,the levels of eNO and peripheral blood eosinophil cells both decreased in the test group,there were significant differences between these two group in the levels of eNO and peripheral blood eosinophil cells.But there existed small correlation between them.Conclusions eNO is an important index in the diagnosis and treatment of chronic cough in children.
